Therapeutic Art

Why does TDBA have a “Therapeutic Art” section?

Relaxation, mindfulness, and play.

  • We want Art to be accessible and fun for all ages and abilities!  We understand that it can be pretty daunting if you don’t feel connected to your creative side, you focus on perfection, or you feel stress using “Professional” materials.
  • Art can also help you heal – it can destress you, keep your mind occupied, and give you an emotional and physical outlet.
  • We have found that all people strive in the environment of clay.

See Our Story to read about our experience with art’s healing properties!

    How does it work?

Use low-stakes and upcycled art materials such as:

    • Cardboard, sketch paper, composition notebooks, magazines, posterboard, playdough, crayons, markers, colored pencils, graphite pencils, pens, and paint
    • Have fun! Experiment! Get messy! There’s no wrong way to play. We’ll clean up when you’re done – isn’t that awesome?

      • We also can taylor special projects for your abilities.  We will create your favorite object to paint; we can work with you one on one, or someone in your care, to help with hand building your or their special object.  I also recommend taking a spin on the potters wheel.  Getting our hands in clay in any way we can, helps give us the grounding and healing properties of clay.

Here’s some projects we suggest for therapeutic art –

Draw mandalas · Create a vision board · Collage · Journal / bullet journal · Start a sketchbook · Make a playdough You · Test every art supply · Make Rorshach “inkblots” · Make a comic strip

DISCLAIMER: We are not therapists; however, we believe that making art can be therapeutic, and the Therapeutic Art section of our studio aims to introduce and celebrate art’s therapeutic properties to our guests. Our Therapeutic Art section is not art therapy; it is a designated space to use art to relax, focus, and connect with oneself.

      • Some of our materials can stain clothes (mainly acrylic paint) – we have aprons, but consider wearing “messable” clothes.
      • TDBA does not store or finish any projects made in the Therapeutic Art section, and all projects must be taken on the day of purchase.
